Why can't I book meetings on this calendar?
Hey!
Is the error something you came across? We have some tips about it, but we're curious on reading how you resolved it!
There are two likely reasons you'll see the screen above:
1. Your colleague's calendar connection is not established yet, and they'll need to connect to their calendar on their Personal Settings page or by logging in to Chili Piper and selecting the "Log in with Google" or "Log in with Office 365" option, depending on which calendar you use.
2. Your colleague has not made their calendar sharing settings available either due to their connected calendar being a different domain from yours or a specific setting on their account.
Users within the same mail domain should be able to view each other's calendars by default, so you may need to check your calendar settings if you have any restrictions within your org.
In a different scenario, let's suppose your colleague is connected to a calendar that belongs to a different email domain than yours - this can be a common scenario across companies with different names, but under the same group, for example. In that case, you'll need to make sure that your domain is visible to them, and vice-versa.
Here's how to resolve this:
- Office 365 lets users make calendars available to “external users,” i.e., to those who need to see your availability, but don’t have user accounts in your Office 365 environment/domain. To enable calendar sharing for Office 365, please follow these instructions from Microsoft here.
- Google enables the same functionality to make your calendar available to external users. To enable calendar sharing for Google Calendar, please follow these instructions from Google here.
Note that setting your calendar visibility to public carries its own set of risks. Limiting this to your organization only is recommended, and that's how we set ours up.
